DRIVEN DI oil uses an advanced additive package designed to reduce abnormal combustion such as low speed pre-ignition problems and protects against carbon-related wear. A lower volatility base oil also reduces crankcase vapors and carbon build-up on intake valves.

Direct injection and turbochargers are a powerful combination, but using high torque and low speed can cause abnormal combustion that not only degrades performance but also causes damage.

This low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) occurs when the air-fuel mixture, injected directly into the combustion chamber instead of the intake manifold or duct, is ignited before the spark and while the piston is still moving upward. The resulting cylinder's excessive pressure creates what is known as small-scale "knocking."

Driven's research has confirmed that the chemistry of the detergent in an oil can affect LSPI, with an increase in calcium and sodium and a decrease in molybdenum compounds. Therefore, Driven has developed a new line of motor oils that represent the first offerings formulated, tested and proven to protect direct injection engines better than API oils.

Driven's DI synthetic motor oils are at the forefront when it comes to the new API SN + 2018 motor oil specification, providing the right solution for direct injection engines.
